Greenock
kennedytwaddle prepared proposals to accompany a regeneration strategy for Greenock.
The work was commissioned by GlenEtive working for Inverclyde Council.
Areas were identified that could facilitate new residential development for locals and to attract new people to the area.
The long term strategy has been received positively.
By far the most ambitious area is the proposal to open up the historical West Burn - shown above in the OS map of 1825. The reservoir is still there - bounded by Nelson and Inverkip Streets. The idea is to harness the hydropower once used for the mills for the new dwellings. The water cascading from the hills above Greenock once again used to bring good fortune.
WEST BURN PROPOSED PLAN
Looking towards Kilblain Street the new apartments straddle the newly exposed and historic West Burn
Looking back toward the West Station - a new entrance is created at eastbound platform level to Glasgow. Greenock is a short train journey from Glasgow.
Exiting the new station entrance at platform level a new hydropower feature welcomes everyone. The water that once powered the mills is once again brought to life.
